I have always had chapped lips. Ever since I can remember, I have always had problems with dry, chapped lips. I often had to buy chapstick
Petroleum jelly (or Vaseline) should be avoided - it may cause temporary relief but worsens the problem in the long run[citation needed]. One should avoid licking their lips as saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which can damage the already compromised lip tissue.
